| Q: |
What does “LEED Certified Platinum” mean? |
| A: |
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System was developed by U.S. Green Building Council to encourage the design and construction of sustainable buildings. It provides a stringent third-party certification process to assess a structure’s performance in water conservation, energy efficiency, and the use of non-toxic materials, among other things. The higher the ranking of a structure, the lower the impact it has on the environment. The goal of Big Wave is to obtain LEED Platinum Certification, the highest possible ranking, for the entire project. |

| Q: |
What are some of the ways that Big Wave will help the environment? |
| A: |
In addition to restoring and protecting wetlands on the property, Big Wave will exclusively feature LEED-certified structures that minimize their impact on the environment. 41% of the property is dedicated to wetlands restoration. Dr. Lyndon Lee and Dr. Peggy Fiedler, wetlands experts with extensive restoration design experience on the San Mateo County Coast, have designed the restoration project. The restored area will be carefully graded in a way similar to watersheds with comparable hydrology. Approximately 30,000 native plants will be grown in pots in a native nursery constructed on site and then planted appropriately. It is the goal of Big Wave to restore and maintain all wetlands on the property. |
